Dragino LoRaST IoT module featuring LoRa technology is a small wireless transceiver module that offers a very compelling mix of long-range, low power consumption, and secure data transmission. It is designed to facilitate developers to quickly deploy industrial-level LoRa and IoT solutions. It helps users to turn the idea into a practical application and make the Internet of Things a reality. It is easy to program, create and connect your things everywhere.

LoRaST’s wireless part is based on SX1276/SX1278 which allows the user to send data and reach extremely long ranges at low data-rates. It provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimizing current consumption. It targets professional wireless sensor network applications such as irrigation systems, smart metering, smart cities, smartphone detection, building automation, and so on.

Dragino LoRaST featuring LoRa technology is an open-source product, it is based on the STM32Cube HAL drivers, with customer application examples, user can program the IoT module via USART1, USART2, or STLINK. The factory firmware supports LoRaWAN 1.0.2 specification and the user can use AT Command to set up it and use it for their project directly.

The RFM95W/96W/98W incorporates the LoRa TM spread spectrum modem which is capable of achieving significantly longer range than existing systems based on FSK or OOK modulation. With this new modulation scheme sensitivities 8 dB better than FSK can be achieved with a low-cost, low-tolerance, crystal reference. This increase in link budget provides much longer range and robustness without the need for external amplification. LoRa TM also provides significant advances in selectivity and blocking performance, further improving communication reliability. For maximum flexibility the
user may decide on the spread spectrum modulation bandwidth (BW), spreading factor (SF) and error correction rate (CR). Another benefit of the spread modulation is that each spreading factor is orthogonal – thus multiple transmitted signals can occupy the same channel without interfering.

This also permits simple coexistence with existing FSK based systems. Standard GFSK, FSK, OOK, and GMSK modulation is also provided to allow compatibility with existing systems or standards such as wireless MBUS and IEEE 802.15.4g. The RFM95W/96W offers bandwidth options ranging from 125 kHz to 500 kHz with spreading factors ranging from 6 to 12, RFM98W Band3 module options ranging from 20.83kHz to 125kHz with spreading factors ranging from 6 to 12, The RFM95W covers the higher UHF bands. This LoRa Radio Node v1.0 is based on the ATmega328P and RFM95  433 Mhz radio module. The main chip ATmega328P clocked at 8 MHz and at 3.3V logic, and use the Arduino pro mini 8Mhz 3.3V bootloader, which can be used like an Arduino pro mini. This chip has 32K of flash and 2K of RAM.
On board with a 3.7Vdc 14500 battery holder, it can be used anywhere you like. In this LoRa Radio Node, we break out 2 i2c ports, 2 analog ports (A0 A1), and 2 digital ports (D3 D4) with 4-pin and 3-pin shell kk type connectors.
These radios are not good for transmitting audio or video, but they do work quite well for small data packet transmission when you need more range than 2.4 GHz (BT, BLE, WiFi, ZigBee).
