Electrolytic capacitors have a larger capacitance than other capacitor types because they use an electrolyte. An electrolyte is a liquid or gel containing a high concentration of ions. Because nearly all electrolytic capacitors are polarised, the positive terminal voltage must always be greater than the negative terminal voltage. The negative terminal is commonly indicated by a band on the cathode side of the capacitor. The maximum working temperature is 105°C.
