Description

Knob in the form of an encoder with a button that allows you to create a simple user interface. The module sends a digital signal on the SIA and SIB pins, depending on the direction of rotation. It works with voltages from 3 V to 5.3 V.

The sensor has a 5 pin connector with digital outputs SIA, SIB and SW to be attached to the pin of the microcontroller, e.g. Arduino.

Operating principle:
Incremental encoder is a kind of rotation sensor for translating the rotary displacement into a sequential of digital pulse signal. The displacement can be gained by counting the number of the pluses outputted in the course of clockwise or anticlockwise rotation. Comparing with the potentiometer, the rotary counter has no limit for counting. So, there is a reset button provided to
reset the counter to the initial state, restarting at 0

How would you build a system that could calculate the distance towards an object or detect whether there is motion present? Normally you would use an Ultrasonic or LiDAR Sensor for distance measurement and PIR Motion Sensor for motion detection. What if we told you there is an all-in-one module that could do all these functions more precisely and also perform functions such as velocity detection of moving objects and angle detection of objects. Would you believe it? We were tired of using these traditional modules for motion-sensing applications and wanted to deliver you a better solution, integrating new technologies. Well…For the first time in the history of Grove, we are very excited to bring you a Grove Module based on Radar Technology!

This is the Grove – Doppler Radar.

The Grove – Doppler Radar is based on the BGT24LTR11 Silicon Germanium MMIC which is a 24GHz radar transceiver. It is driven by an XMC1302 MCU based on Arm® Cortex®-M0. This comes in a compact package and runs on very low power, providing high-precision measurements. The high frequency of this module allows for high penetration through objects and therefore this module does not need to be exposed outside when deploying, but rather behind an object. This, in turn, is extremely useful in security systems. Also, this is able to operate in harsh weather conditions such as high temperatures, dust, and rain.

Getting Started with SeeedStudio Grove Doppler Radar (BGT24LTR11)

These Radar sensors are used for detecting, locating, tracking, and recognizing objects of various kinds at considerable distances. It operates by transmitting electromagnetic energy toward objects, commonly referred to as targets, and observing the echoes returned from them. The module has a range of up 4 meters and only requires stable 5V to be powered. The user may vary the orientation of the module to get the best coverage.

Applications:
  1. Intruder alarms
  2. Occupancy Modules
  3. Object Detection

Precautions:

  1.  The supply current should be greater than 30mA to drive the module, the voltage should be stable and can not have large fluctuations, otherwise, it will trigger a continuous trigger (load lamp may continuous self-trigger or not extinguished)
  2.  The product should not be installed next to a large area of the metal body, can not be placed in a fully enclosed metal shell, which will affect the performance of this product or can not be used normally

Note:

  1. To increase the range, sensitivity and time turn the preset clockwise, and to reduce turn it anti-clockwise.
  2.  The guaranteed sensing range is 4m, we have tested this sensor and found it working up to 20m having the right conditions.
